VPBC Newsletter – 25 September 2019

The 2019 bowling season is all but over, and what a great season it was!  I hope everyone has enjoyed playing on our wonderful bowling greens.

Round Robins

The regular Tuesday and Saturday Round Robins have proved to be both very enjoyable and popular. Grateful thanks to organiser John Sawyer. These have become a vital part of social bowling at VPBC. The last Round Robin of this year will be on Tuesday, 1 October.

Winter bowling arrangements

My most recent newsletter suggested that Round Robins would continue on the second green in October, but this arrangement has to be withdrawn due to the ongoing treatments required on green #2. This green is now closed, and will remain closed until at least 22 October. The club committee will then decide if it is possible to re-open the green for a limited period during the winter months (weather permitting).

The number 1 Green will close for the winter on 6 October. Necessary treatments will then be carried out.

League Team Performances

The league and cup fixtures for our 14 teams are now completed. This has been an outstanding year for the Victoria Park teams, with indications of an even better year in 2020. It is easy to examine teams and individual results via our website

The final league positions were:

Southport & District Ladies A         6th in Division 1

Southport & District Ladies B         3rd in Division 2

Southport Ladies Vets A                 3rd in Division 1

Southport Ladies Vets B                 4th in Division 2

Parks A                                              7th in Premier Division

Parks B                                              3rd in Division 2

Southport LV                                     5th in Premier Division

Southport Vets Men’s A                  1st or 2nd in Division 1

Southport Vets Men’s B                  4th in Division 3

Aughton Mixed A                             4th in Division 1

Aughton Mixed B                             2nd in Division 2 (Promoted)

Aughton Mixed C                             9th in Division 2

Victoria Park Seagulls                    4th in Division 3

Victoria Park Puffins                       5th in Division 3

The Club members and Committee want to put on record our thanks for all the hard work and leadership done by all team captains and their deputies.

Club Men’s Championship

The last bowling big event of the season is the Club Men’s Championship on Saturday 5th October. Competitors and spectators welcome. We do hope most team players enter. It will be very interesting to see how team members get on against each other and to see who will be crowned Men’s champion.

Social

The Social Committee will again operate Tuesday Socials starting on Tuesday 8 October at 1.00PM. Board games, cards, dominoes in the pavilion. Cost £1pp.

Annual Awards Party

The annual awards party will be held on Saturday, 19 October at Southport Old Links Golf Club. Tickets are great value at £20 pp (for a 3 course dinner with music). Please try to attend this event – it promises to be our best ever.

Indoor Bowling

The weekly Wednesday afternoon VPBC indoor short mat bowling sessions at The Dunes commence on 2 October at 1pm. Contact Sue on 07805 085291 for details.

If anyone wants to talk to me about the club, about volunteering, about 2020 ideas, about fund raising, about 2020 teams do please call.
