VPBC Newsletter March 2020

Annual General Meeting

The club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place on Saturday, 29 February.

We had a healthy attendance; Officers, Committee & Auditors were duly elected. Previous year’s accounts & reports were passed, and plans for 2020, our centenary year were outlined. A copy of the AGM minutes will be on the club noticeboard shortly. If you would like a copy to be emailed to you please let us know.

The first meeting of the new committee will take place on Monday, 9 March.

League Teams

Our fifteen teams are gearing up for the new season, with most leagues starting in April. If you are interested in playing for one of our three mixed ‘vets’ teams on a Wednesday afternoon, please speak to Andy Muchall on 01704 874458.

Greens

The wettest February on record has inevitably resulted in bowling-green preparation work running a little behind schedule. We will confirm a date when the greens will be available for play ASAP.

The greens team have just taken delivery of a second Dennis mower that will help the team maintain both greens in excellent condition. Two machines of the same type will simplify volunteer training and enable both greens to be mowed at the same time.

Our Ransomes 51 super bowl mower (in excellent condition) is now surplus to our requirements and is available for sale. If you know of any bowling or cricket club that is seeking a fine cut mower, please ask them to get in touch with Paul Crummey.

New members

At the AGM, we emphasised our collective aim to increase club membership numbers this year. The £35 new member offer is great value – can you meet the challenge of bringing at least one friend/relative to try bowls at Victoria Park?

Bowl for Health sessions

For the third consecutive year we are running ‘Bowl for health’ sessions on six successive Saturday mornings commencing 18 April. This would be a great time to bring potential new members to these free organised mornings. Contact Judy Muchall on 01704 874458 for further information or to volunteer to help during the sessions.

Volunteers

I was pleased with the number of people at the AGM who registered their interest in taking up a volunteer role at the club.  We rely almost exclusively on volunteers to perform essential tasks to keep the club operational, and every little helps!

If you are interested in helping your club, please get in touch.

Cheers and good bowling (soon!)

Ted Morrell

Chairman (VPBC Centenary)
