VPBC AWAY DAY TO LEVER CLUB PORT SUNLIGHT 2 September 2017

The club’s third successive visit to this great location took place in ideal weather. 28 bowlers played in a 4 person Round Robin format – 3 games each 11 up. The 12 supporting non-players enjoyed the sunshine whilst watching the tussles on the green.

The seven group winners plus best runner up played in 4 quarter finals. The semifinals produced wins for Betty Hunter v Gordon Dagnall and Deborah Herold over David Miles. The final produced a great match with Mum just edging past daughter in an 11-10 victory, so Betty became the first winner of the new John O’Hara Cup – bedecked of course in John’s beloved Southport FC yellow & black colours.

This was the last of the 2017 Club Competitions,

Francess O’Hara, well supported by family and friends, presented the John O’Hara Cup and later she drew the raffle, after a lively speech by son Martin (very pleased with the Southport’s 2-0 win).

We (of course) expressed thanks (a) to the Lever Club for use of green and for food & drink:(b) to Eric our coach driver and stand-in bowler (we offered him membership!): (c) Sue Mountford for organising the raffle and (4) especially to Frances O’Hara and family & friends for their support and presence.
