Ladies Championship Report (Saturday, 20 July)

Today saw the Victoria Park Ladies Competition. The day started off cloudy but the sun came out and shone on the lady bowlers and visitors.
There were 14 team members entered into the competition,  and additionally a social member was persuaded to play to make up 15 in total.
The competition was played in 5 groups of three, the players with the highest aggregates progressing to the knockout phase.
The qualifiers were Judy, Noreen, Sue B, Denise,  & Sue D and Debbie who were joint winners in their group.
The prelims were played by Noreen & Debbie, and Denise & Sue B. Debbie & Denise made it through to the semi-finals.
The semis consisted of Debbie v Denise & Sue D v Judy, with Sue & Debbie completing good wins to reach the final.
This was set to be a close contest, however Debbie, who had been on great form all day, beat Sue easily.
Debbie played brilliantly all day and was a very worthy winner.
Apologies must go to Debbie as at the end of the game the cup was not presented due to an oversight. So sorry about this Debbie.
We hope you all had a good day’s bowling, and enjoyed your afternoon tea.
Thanks to all who competed and to those who turned up on the day to support.
Sue

I count myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity of playing so many matches on a lovely warm and sunny afternoon. That in itself was a worthy prize regardless of the oversight of the presentation of the cup and the fact that I acheived something I never thought was possible.Thankyou to all you spectators who stayed behind to watch the final and create a supportive atmosphere. Many thanks to Sue D for the organising of the matches along with other team members and for treating us all to some delicious cakes !!
