VPBC Newsletter – June 2021

Hi everyone, I thought you were due a little update on what is happening within the club.

Well nothing much has changed regarding restrictions; therefore, it has been decided to leave the booking system in place for a few more weeks as it is working very well. We will however be allowing up to 6 people at a time in the clubhouse please remember your mask.

Hopefully by time you receive the July newsletter all restrictions will have been lifted but meanwhile thank you to all our members who make such an effort to keep everyone safe.

Southport Bowls Festival

As you know, we are hosting the first two days of the Southport Bowls Festival at Victoria Park on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd June; if anyone is willing to help out in the kitchen for a couple of hours on either day please let me know. Spectators are allowed and it should be a good two days of bowling.

The Probus and Round Robin (next week only) will be on Wednesday 23rd instead of Tuesday 22nd.

Park closures

The park was due to be closed on 25th/26th/27th June for a music festival – this has now been moved to 30th/31st July 1st August. Also, the park will not now be closed on 2nd/3rd July as that event has been cancelled. Therefore, the greens will now be available on those dates.

Group Coaching Sessions

Please note that the regular group coaching sessions run by Fred Douglas will now be held on Fridays from 12.30 to 1.30pm

Club Competition

We had another enjoyable day on 6th June when we held a random pairs competition with the added bonus of burgers and sausages. Thank you to Mike Wardle and Sheila Mo for your hard work on the day.

The winners of the consolation final were Mike McCormick and Bryan Elliot, just beating myself and Norman Barker [we were robbed] well done. The main competition final winners were Steve Goulding and Chris Butler winning out in a good game against Mike Kellett and Denise Harvey.

Ladies singles competition

Our next competition is the Ladies singles on 4th July. This is open to all lady members of all abilities so put your name down when the list goes up later this week and come and have a lovely day.

League matches at Victoria Park

I would just like to point out that there are league matches played on green 1 most afternoons and evenings, and I know all our Victoria Park teams would welcome spectators to lend their support.

Car parking at VP

A little thank you to all (or at least 99%) of our members who are complying with the current car parking arrangements (parking on the grass area immediately on your right as you enter the park).

Social

It has been lovely to see so many of our members old and new at our round robins and competitions they are always really fun days.

We normally have an away day every year near the end of the season. We book a venue which provides bowling and have a full day including lunch and evening meal. We missed out last year but have provisionally booked to go to Samlesbury on 28 August – more details to follow but keep that date free if you are interested in attending.

I think that is everything I need to tell you for now so just ‘Keep Bowling’.

Susan Mountford

Chairman
