VPBC Newsletter – July 2019

INTRODUCTION

I would like to begin by extending a warm welcome to new members receiving the Club Newsletter for the first time. I do hope you are making new friends and enjoying your bowling.
Amazingly we are already half way through the year! Both bowling greens are in good condition and playing well. It is a wonderful scene on a fine day to see both greens busy!
The Greens Team are often thanked and congratulated by members. Visiting teams too have commented favourably on the appearance and condition of the greens.
The revamp of the Pavilion is making a positive impact too.
Financially we run a tight ship. Please would you always pay the modest charges for refreshments taken.
All 14 teams are in full swing and doing rather well. Do visit our website
for fixtures, results, league tables and players’ individual results.

GREENS
We are, of course, very fortunate to have two good greens, so please remember that even when a match is in progress the other green is open to members.
The Tuesday & Saturday afternoon ROUND ROBINS are proving very popular.
Do try one – they are great opportunities to meet, mingle and enjoy a friendly game.

COACHING
We now have 7 qualified bowling coaches able to help members improve their skills and thus enjoyment of the game. It is already making quite a difference – sign-up for free coaching sessions on the website Coaching page or using the sign-up sheet in the pavilion.

SOCIAL
The Ladies plans to support the Club Competitions, Flower Show 4 day event, the Club Away Day on 1st September, and the Awards Night on 19 October.
They have a great provisional idea for then VPBC Centenary next year – a 1920’s fancy dress social bowling event.

COMPETITIONS
The Ladies Singles Club Competition will be at 12.30 on Saturday, 20 July on number 1 green. All female members are encouraged to sign up in the pavilion.
NB The usual Saturday Round Robin will be held on number 2 green.

The Men’s Singles Club Competition will be at 12.30 on Saturday, 27 July on number 1 green. A Round Robin will take place on Green #2
All men are encouraged to sign up in the pavilion for the competition.

BOWLS LADDER
Andy Muchall has introduced an all members ladder (social bowling competition). Please see information on Noticeboard.
Try your skills against other members at a time to suit you.

90th SOUTHPORT FLOWER SHOW 15-18 August 2019

A separate Newsletter just dealing with arrangements before, during and after the Flower Show will be issued shortly. Please see Sign Up sheets in the pavilion if you want to play on club days – Thursday 15th and Friday 16th.
Cake and Tombola prize donations are welcome.

Cheers

Ted Morrell
Chairman
