Newsletter – May 2017

Well the sun is shining even if a cold wind tends to be blowing and the new season is well under way.

Some Diary Dates

1) Di Banahan is organising the Croquet/Bowls joint event on the 28th May. This event will consist of  a croquet morning and bowling in the afternoon with a similar format to the popular flat/crown day . A sign-up sheet is up in the Pavilion or tell Di.

2) The annual VPBC versus Crossens BC is set for 8th July at Victoria Park.

3) VPBC Awards Night is set for the Talbot Hotel on 21st October. Meal plus quiz plus awards at a cost of £12

The first competition of the season saw over 30 members competing for two trophies. Congratulations to Doreen Morrell and Andy Muchall.

The Kitchen
This has run into some unexpected delays but Dave Spratt and Ted are ‘on the case’ and we have not yet given up hope of making significant improvements at the end of this season.

Flower Show
Further to Ted’s missive, it must be stressed that the purchase of reduced price tickets either as bowlers or spectators is £18 (plus £1 postage if required) is dependent on involvement in the events on the days for which the tickets are purchased. Members who purchase tickets and do not participate will be expected to stump up the FULL COST of the tickets.
Greens

The two greens are now in excellent condition, thanks to Ralph’s sterling work. Ralph URGENTLY needs more helpers to come forward to keep Green Two in its current pristine condition. MAKE YOURSELF KNOWN. The alternative is to lose the green altogether!

Membership

Our main source of new members still tends to be word-of-mouth to friends and relatives. The committee is looking into advertising the club more in the locality but please, tell your friends/relatives and neighbours about our club and encourage them to give bowling a try on one of our Round Robin days.
