Newsletter – June 2022

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well and enjoying your bowling. There are a few things to update you on.

 PARK CLOSURES

There have been some changes to park events that affect the club. The park will no longer be closed on 18th or 19th JUNE. However, it will now close 24th 25th and 26th JUNE. This means the Presidents Day competition has had to be moved to 7th AUGUST.

 COMPETITIONS

The club competition on 29th MAY was well attended and after a cool start turned into a lovely sunny day. We tried a new format playing in teams of 3. Feedback on this was mixed so needs a rethink. The winners of the consolation competition were Paul Crummey Gayle Gordon and Nancy McDade just beating John Ashcroft Janet Maxwell and Peter Halpin.

The winners of the main competition were Sue Davies Mike McCormack and Sarah Murtaugh; runners up were Dave Gordon Haydn Preece and Norman Barker.

Our next competition will be a ‘choose your own partner’ pairs on 19th JUNE. A sign-up sheet will be in the clubhouse from Thursday.

 50-50 DRAW

This month’s draw was made on 29th MAY after our club competition.

1st prize £49.50 John McGenity

2nd prize £24.75 Susan Mountford

3rd prize £8.25 Janet Maxwell.

This month raised £82.50 for the irrigation fund making a total of £147.50 so far.

 FLOWER SHOW

COVID sadly meant that the famous Southport Flower Show was cancelled in 2020 and 2021. This was an immense loss to the town of Southport and the Flower Show Organisation. This year’s show will be on Thursday 18th AUGUST to Sunday 21st AUGUST, and it really needs to be a success.

We will play our part by delivering 4 full days of bowling as promised. The popular open mixed pairs and singles competitions will again be played on Saturday and Sunday.

We very much need VPBC members to sign up to play on the other 2 days.

Thursday morning will be a friendly mixed pairs match against MLSF we will need 20 members for this competition.

Thursday afternoon we will be playing a round robin with a maximum 40 people.

The cost for these sessions is £10 and this gives you full access to the Flower Show when not bowling.

Friday we will be having a club competition mixed pairs choose your own partner maximum 32 entries. The cost is £15 per couple and again gives access to the Show

This is our main fundraiser and this year anything we raise will go to the irrigation fund.

We will need volunteers on all 4 days to man the kitchen and the Tombola stall these will be provided with entry tickets.

We can provide tickets at the reduced price of £17 for family and friends who wish to attend. Accompanied children under 16 and carers can enter free of charge.

A sign-up sheet will be in the clubhouse shortly. Anyone willing to volunteer please contact myself or Sheila Mo.

There will be no entry to the park during the Flower Show without a ticket and no parking from 17th AUGUST.

Lastly could I ask everyone to try to donate something for the Tombola stall; alcohol is especially welcome as it encourages some of the men (and women) to buy a ticket.

I hope to see you all soon

 Regards

Susan Mountford

Chairman
