Flat v Crown Challenge 2021
Victoria Park BC 240 Southport BC 210
Friendly matches with our closest bowling neighbours the Southport Bowling Club started in 2012. This year the match was held on Sunday, 11 July and took place in good weather and followed the usual format.
SBC are members of the flat green organisation “Bowls England”. (There is also a “Bowls Scotland”) and VPBC are members of the British Crown Green Bowling Association.
Both clubs fielded a mixed squad of 18 players.
SBC President Joe Adamson welcomed us to Kings Gardens in the morning. Both clubs fielded 6 teams of 3 players for the flat green for 18 ends playing in “Trips” format. Southport BC won 4 of the 6 games with an aggregate score of 140 to 130.
After a very welcome and enjoyable bacon/sausage barm and tea (many thanks Maureen & Pat) we walked across to Victoria Park for the afternoon crown green games (thanks Sheila & Margaret for the tea and cakes). Ted Morrell welcomed everybody and explained the afternoon arrangements. Using both greens to play the nine pairs matches 21 up. Seven of the games were won by VPBC two by SBC.
VPBC retained the Cup which Joe presented to VPBC chair Susan Mountford making the overall series score 5-3.
