Newsletter May 2019

We are delighted to be continuing to recruit new members. If you are a new member, we hope this monthly newsletter will help you to keep up to date with what is happening at your club.

Social Events & Competitions

The new sub-committee is already making a big difference.

They are helping with refreshments on Sunday, 26 May at our next club competition. Cake donations welcomed!

This will be a mixed pairs event – sign up by 11am on the day if you wish to enter.

One of Andy’s BBQs will be a feature of the Saturday, 29 June club competition.

The Round Robin on Saturday, 15 June is to be an Alzheimers Cup Cake event. All cupcake sale proceeds will be donated to the charity. Several promises of home-made cupcakes have already been received. More would be very welcome indeed.

The committee have booked Sunday, 1 September for the VPBC Away Day and Saturday, 19 October for our Awards Dinner Dance. Both at great new venues. Please note the dates and await further details.

Southport Flower Show

This is a huge annual event in the VPBC calendar. See www.southportflowershow.co.uk for more details.

On Thursday, 15 August and Friday, 16 August, VPBC members can play bowls and enjoy discounted show tickets. Full details will be featured in the June Newsletter.

League Bowling

All fourteen teams are now up and running. Please do look at all the teams performances on the club website. The league tables and individual records make fascinating reading. Supporters are welcome at all matches. League team squads are finalised for this season from the end of June.

Greens

The work of our volunteer greens team means that our bowling greens are amongst the best in the area. The advantage of having two playable greens is that if one is in use for a team match the other green is available for social bowling/practice.

Bowl for Health

After our great success last year, we are repeating this initiative again in 2019. The first session took place on the morning of 11 May.  At the time of writing, there are four remaining Saturday morning sessions (10am to 12 noon).

Coaching

We now have seven members qualified as Level 1 coaches. Please do look at the Noticeboard or website to sign up for sessions to help improve your bowling.

These are free to all VPBC members.

Annual Charity Challenge match

Our Annual Charity Challenge Match was held on 18 May. We enjoyed a good day of bowling in great weather, using both greens.. 24 bowlers from VPBC played 24 bowlers from our friends Maghull & Lydiate Sporting Friends. VPBC won 7 of the pairs games, MLSF won 5, plus 3 points for the largest aggregate total, and therefore won the match 8-7. £550 was raised for the British Heart Foundation. Thank you to all who supported this event.

Can you help your club?

The club could not survive and thrive without volunteers. We are looking to appoint an assistant treasurer to support Dave Spratt. Please speak to Dave to find out more, or use the club contact page to send a message.

Wedding of the year

Finally, warmest congratulations to VPBC members MR & MRS DAVE & GAYLE GORDON who married at Southport Town Hall on Friday, 17 May. We all wish them continued happiness together.
