OCTOBER 2018 NEWSLETTER

To all VPBC members
2018 IS PROVING TO BE GREAT YEAR FOR VPBC.
WE ARE A COMMUNITY CLUB THAT IS DETERMINED TO BALANCE TEAM AND SOCIAL BOWLING AS WE TRY TO BECOME KNOWN AS THE FRIENDLIEST BOWLING CLUB IN SOUTHPORT.
Our last big bowling event of the year takes place on Saturday 29th September with a Random Mixed Pairs Competition starting at 10.30 am.  The sign up sheet is on the noticeboard.
This will take place alongside a charity Coffee Morning at the Club to raise funds for the Macmillan charity, a very good cause indeed.   All are very welcome.
Our last big social event of the year is our end of season Awards Night Party at The Talbot Hotel on Saturday 20 October starting with a three course meal at 7.00 for 7.30 pm.  This will be followed by the presentation of the Awards and then entertainment by the splendid Simply Standing group follows  ….. and tickets are available at only £15 each.   Book NOW.  Tickets are very limited,
On the bowling greens, you will see that No.2 green is, this week, being given an expensive but essential autumn treatment that will improve it as a bowling green next year.  As a result of this, and then the same treatment on No. 1 green in mid October, only one green will be available for play for the rest of this year.
The hugely popular Round Robins will continue on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons (Note: registration by 1.15 pm) and, for safety on the green, the number of players will be limited to the first 24 members who have registered.  Social Pairs will also continue on a Sunday afternoons….. and a Ladder Competition is also now established too.
A new programme of Bowling Tuition commences on Wednesday, 3 October at 1.15 pm for registration and continues for 4 weeks. This is suitable for novices and improvers alike so please come along and improve your game.
With the Winter approaching and the eventual wet weather that will force closure of the greens, the Club proposes to play indoor short mat bowls at Dunes Leisure Centre on Wednesday afternoons from 1 pm to 3 pm starting on 31 October.  The cost will be £2.20 per session, payable at the Dunes Reception Desk on arrival where your Dunes car park fee will be refunded. Flat soled shoes must be worn to avoid damage to the gym floor. Bowls will be supplied.  It’s  a great way to stay in touch, to keep fit and to socialise during the long winter months to come.  Please sign up on the Notice Board list to indicate your interest or speak to Sue Mountford about it.
One of our great successes this year has been the influx of new members, nearly 50 so far, and new members still joining!  A big welcome to all new members.  We know many have enjoyed their first taste of VPBC and hope their enjoyment will continue in 2019.  Our best source of new members is word-of-mouth from members to friends, so please keep passing out the good word. Only £30 for 18 months membership! New, returning and experienced bowlers of both sexes and all ages welcome.
We have endeavoured to keep members informed on club news and events with regular Newsletters, emails, the pavilion notice board and our excellent website- www.victoriabowlingclubsouthport.com .
Over 95% of our members are now on email. Thank you all.  If you have changed your email address or know of someone not getting Club emails, please reply to this email or put a note to the membership secretary in the post box.
We have tried our very best to give members great value for money for their subscription. The pavilion revamp has been completed – a great members DIY effort.  We have saved the second green and now have two good, usable greens. And we have teams of volunteers covering all our activities. ALL THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE HARD WORK OF OUR VOLUNTEER MEMBERS – too many to mention by name – BUT A HUGE, HUGE THANK YOU.  Our planning for 2019 has already commenced.  We are in a strong position but there’s a lot to do and no time to waste.
More details of our plans for 2019 will come in future Newsletters  PLEASE NOTE THE 2019 CLUB AGM WILL BE ON SATURDAY 2 MARCH 2019.
Keep on rolling!   Ted Morrell. Chairman
